Arsene Wenger revolutionised Arsenal during his 22 year spell as manager winning three Premier League titles and taking Arsenal to the Champions League final. Wenger managed Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Freddie Ljungberg, Robert Pires & Patrick Viera. Unai Emery replaced the Arsenal great for the 2018/19 season.

Emery has worked out how to fit in both Lacazette and Aubameyang into his side. Arsenal have a win rate of 82% when they have started a game with two strikers. The only game Emery has lost starting two strikers was against Manchester City. But now Emery has worked out different shapes to cope with opponents, vs. 4-4-2 use a 3-4-1-2. Getting a number 10 in between the lines and pinning their back 4 by bold positioning from their strikers. This worked in their victories over Man Utd and Napoli. The interesting side of this was that he used different midfield combinations. In the 3-4-1-2 shape, Emery has played Leno; Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal; Maitland-Niles, Torreira, Xhaka, Kolasinac; Ramsey; Lacazette, Aubameyang.

If Arsenal get Champions League qualification through the Premier League or Europa League they will be able to attract a higher quality of player. Players such as Nicolas Pepe who has been heavily linked to a move to Bayern Munich would be far more likely to join the club if they could promise Champions League football. Only Kylian Mbappe has scored more goals in Ligue 1 this season than Pepe and the Ivory Coast winger has registered more assists than any other player in the league. Of course Arsenal also need a centre back. Without the Champions League they could potentially be looking at signing James Tarkovski. With it, Dayot Upamecano or Ibrahima Konate become available, two players that look destined to be amongst the top centre backs in European football.

Against Napoli at home, Arsenal played Torreira and Ramsey deep with Ozil ahead. Away, Emery went with Torriera and Xhaka at the base and Ramsey as a pressing defensive number ten. Just with his midfield selection, Emery can set up Arsenal to dominate the ball or counter. Vs. a 4-3-3, Emery can play the 4-4-2 diamond and attack in behind their opponents full backs. The Spainish coach did this superbly against Chelsea, going on to win 2-0. Playing as a front two is getting the best out of Aubameyang and Lacazette. In the eleven games that Emery has played a front two, Lacazette has scored 5 goals and registered 4 assists and Aubameyang has scored 9 goals and registered 4 assists. In fact, with a front two Arsenal have scored 23 goals, and one of Aubameyang or Lacazette have been directly involved in 74% of those goals. Only 5 of the 23, have not been assisted or scored by Lacazette or Aubameyang and Arsenal will become a force if Emery continues to evolve this next season.
