DEAR AUNTY (SPOKEN WORD POEM) | AN OPEN LETTER | YUVAA | Ft. Aisha Ahmed, Yashaswini Dayama

DEAR AUNTY (SPOKEN WORD POEM) | AN OPEN LETTER | YUVAA | Ft. Aisha Ahmed, Yashaswini Dayama 'Dear Aunty, hum thak gaye hain'.

Here's a spoken word open letter to all aunties, who don't get tired of commenting on us girls.

Dear Aunty,

Hum thak gaye hai.
“Laal lipstick pehen ke kitni loud lag rahi ho”
“Laal lehenga pehen lo kitni badi ho gayi ho”
"Ladkon ke saath itna chipak chipak ke kyu baat karti ho"
“Bhai saath mein hain na faaltu mein kyu darti ho”
“Top thoda upar karo, bra straps dikh rahe hai”
“Skirt thoda neeche karo, ghutne dikh rahe hai”
“Office se itna late aati ho, na jaane kis kiske saath soti ho”
“Aur phir rape ho jaye, toh poore internet pe roti ho”

Kahin bhi jao toh
Purse mein fully charged phone,
Doston se bhi milna ho toh
Pepper spray bhoolta hai kon?
Nikalte hue har baar live location share,
“Chalo today was better”, agar din mein ek hi mile stare.
Auto mein rear view mirror ki tension,
Auto driver ka unnecessary attention,
‘Cute’ taango ke beech acute angle placement,
Baajuon ka use as shield ka replacement.
Thak gaye hai khud ko badal badal kar,
Dosroon ki nazar se sambhal sambhal kar,
Thak gaye hai online woke banke,
Aur offline gali mein darpok banke.
Thak gaye hai safety humari chun chun kar,
Aur precautions tumhari sun sun kar.
Thak gaye hai.

‘20 ways to be safe; for women’
‘10 self defence moves you need to know; for women’
‘5 ways to avoid trollers; for women’
And then there’s this one comment you make,
On women.

Aunty, galti sirf aapki nahi hai,
Hum samajhte hai.
Aap bhi kabhi wohi ladki thi
Jo apni zindagi apni tarah se jeena chahti thi.
Jisko high waist skirt par nahi,
deep neck blouse pe judge kiya jaata tha.
Jisko ‘ten ways to be the perfect girlfriend’ ke article nahi,
We’re sorry ki is generation gap ko hum
kabhi ungap hi nahi kar paye.
We’re sorry ki aapko aaj tak rape ki wajah kapdo ki length lagti hai,
We’re sorry ki humara self defence hi aapko humari strength lagti hai.
We’re sorry that rape ki vajah vo nahi hum hai,
Yahaan condition nahi, conditioning hi problem hai,
We’re sorry ki yeh you versus us ho gaya,
Chalo yeh ladai hum band karein,
Ab bas ho gaya.
Chalo aap aur main ek baar baith kar baat karte hai,
Ye rape ke comment PE nahi,
Is rape ke culture se hi ladte hain.
