Everyone remembers Aladdin. It’s a timeless Disney Renaissance film that released in 1992. But do you really remember Aladdin? Most people probably remember the catchy songs, the compelling characters, and of course, the late, great, Robin Williams.
But what you might not remember, is that Aladdin is set in a Post Apocalyptic world set 10,000 years in the future. You heard that right. The Disney classic set in the fictional city of Agrabah, and is the last bastion of humanity.
Our biggest hint at this bleak world Aladdin inhabits is that the Genie makes a snide remark about his clothing. He says that the vest and fez are much too 3rd century. This is seemingly harmless, but the Genie said something earlier that doesn’t quite line up with his later comment. When being freed from his magical lamp, he says, “ten thousand years will give you such a crick in the neck. So, if the Genie has been in his lamp for 10,000 years, that would mean that the current year is 10,200 AT LEAST.
There are tons of hints in the movies, and video games that might surprise you. Some of it doesn’t quite add up though, and we wanted to see what works and what doesn’t.
Join us on a magic carpet ride through this Disney theory as we break down what actually could’ve happened in Aladdin.
