Mother speaks after doctors operate on spine of her baby while it's still in the womb In a UK first, doctors have used keyhole surgery to repair the spine of a baby with spina bifida while it was still inside the womb.

Sherrie Sharp, who was once told she could not have children, had the operation performed on her son Jaxson at King's College Hospital in London 27 weeks into her pregnancy.

Spina bifida is a type of neural tube defect that happens when the spinal cord does not develop properly in utero, and the nerves are exposed to amniotic fluid, leading to problems with the bowel, bladder and legs.
