Why does hypocomplementenia occur during a type III allergic reaction?
Hypocomplementemia occurs in type 3 hypersensitivity reactions because as the complexes are formed, they associate with the complement, activates, fix them and reduce the level of compliment in the body.
Dr.Mobeen Syed explains that glomerulonephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, Polyarteritis nodosa, allergic lung disease are diseases due to type 3 hypersensitivity reactions. Causes of serum sickness are mainly drugs, which include penicillin, anti-thymocyte, trimethoprim.
If tetanus injection is given before five years of age, it can cause an Arthus reaction. Glomerulonephritis can be post-streptococcus glomerulonephritis, IgA glomerulonephritis, bacterial infective endocarditis.
