(Week #21) A King Builds a Temple for God’s Name: How to worship God (I Kings 9:1-9; Rev. 4:1-11) I. We worship God prayerfully (v. 1-3)
A. Solomon’s worship included humility, praise, and petition to God. (1 Kings 8:54–56)
II. We worship God obediently (v. 4-5)
A. Experiencing God’s blessing is dependent upon our faithful worship of Him.
a. In Solomon’s case, God would seat a king perpetually on Israel’s throne.
III. We worship God specifically (v.6-9)
A. God must be worshipped in a specific manner.
B. God must be worshipped according to the guidelines He set forth.
IV. Principles for the Christian [Rev. 4:1-11]
A. True Worship has a high view of God (v. 1-4)
b. The Throne of God
1. It is fixed and eternal.
2. It is the authority seat of the Lord. [cf., 2 Cor. 5:16; Acts 22:6-9; James 1:1,2:1; Rev. 1:10-18]
3. It is the center of all attention.
- It is surrounded by 24 lower thrones [cf., Mt. 19:28]
B. True Worship has a reverence for God (v. 5-8)
a. Reverence for God’s Holiness [cf., Is. 6:1-3]
C. True Worship exalts and praises God (v. 9-11)
a. Worship praises God for who he is and what he has done.

1. Our worship of God needs to reflect a correct understanding of who God is and what He requires of us.
- “Perhaps the greatest need in all of Christendom is for a clear understanding of the biblical teaching about worship. When the church fails to worship properly, it fails in every other area. And the world is suffering because of its failure.”
- “Worship is not simply singing songs on a Sunday. True worship…is giving yourself to God in your entirety. True worship includes surrender.”
2. Our worship of God begins with what we do and what we think about God. (Rom. 12:1-2)
