Headlines:
• The Earthbound that could have been
o Most of us Earthbound fans know the story of Earthbound 64 by now, and pine over what could have been.
o Of course, with the demise of the N64 DD expansion, so too died the 3D Earthbound that was in development.
o Many ideas from this cancelled game eventually were put to use in Mother 3 in 2006
o However, before this version of Mother 3 was in development, someone else put in a bid to work on a new entry in the Mother series, and this is what has just come to light.
o Yasuyuki Honne, had worked on Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Xenosaga Episode 1 and Baten Kaitos in various art and directing roles
o He pitched an idea to Nintendo to create a crafty-version, using concept art made from cloth and felt.
o Unfortunately that idea didn’t get picked up, but the original concept art survived, and was just recently posted to twitter, along with the story told by Yasuyuki Honne.
o It’s an awesome look into what Mother 3 could have been, and a neat story about Satoru Iwata, Shigesato Itoi, and Yasuyuki Honne.
• Monolith Soft’s profits are nearly doubled!
o $1.28 Million in profits from last year, this year’s profits are $2.5 million
That’s in American dollars, and this is profits, meaning after expenses.
o Obviously great news for fans of the Xenoblade series,
o Opens the door for more extravagant games in the future,
o Makes you wonder what they could do with that nearly $4 million dollars they didn’t have only 2 years ago!
• Nintendo Switch Lite
o Nintendo has announced a more portable-oriented version of the Switch is on the way
o Why does this matter?
It’s 2/3 the cost of an original switch at just $200
Will likely drive to lower costs in the 2nd hand switch console market
o The console will come in teal, yellow and gray,
o will not feature HD rumble or docking ability
o increased battery life and higher pixel-density screen
o Launches September 20th
o A Special Pokemon Sword & Shield version will launch November 8th
New Game and Port Announcements:
• Falcom teased PS4 re-releases of two PSP titles
o Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki
o Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki
Neither of these have received western ports in the past,
• Yo-kai watch 1 is getting an HD remaster on Switch
o This does not necessarily mean we’ll be getting this in the US, however it seems like we’ve been getting most Yo-Kai watch games that have released, and with an already-existing translation, I think a western release is likely.
o Planned Japanese release date of September 20th, alongside the Switch Lite
Localization and Release Date Updates:
• GreedFall new trailer
Other News:
• Ys IX Monstrum Nox received an updated trailer
o The new trailer shows off in-game combat and also some cut-scenes
o Expected to launch on PlayStation 4 on September 26
o No English localization has been announced
o And while the game does not appear to harness the full power of the PS4, it still looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun to play.
• Atelier Ryza also got a new trailer
o This new Atelier game appears to be bringing in interest from new audiences
o Features a more modern design aesthetic,
o appears to be utilizing a new engine, among other head-turning assets that are invigorating the fanbase.
o Atelier Ryza will be launching October 29 in the US, November 1st in Europe
o Coming to Switch, PS4, and PC
