Snorkeling with Galapagos and Sandbar Sharks - Oahu, Hawaii

Snorkeling with Galapagos and Sandbar Sharks - Oahu, Hawaii Why should we #HelpSaveSharks?

Sharks are like the “white blood cells” of the ocean. They are top predators in the sea, and therefore, they help maintain precious underwater ecosystems and keep other animal populations healthy and balanced (this is heavily due to the face that they primarily eat sick, dead, dying animals, which allows the *stronger, healthier* prey animals to reproduce the new generations ;)). Without sharks, there would be a serious risk of the ocean collapsing entirely, which then of course drastically affects US humans, as we rely on the ocean for our main oxygen source!

Unfortunately, it believed that roughly 70 to 100 million sharks are killed every year. This is an incredibly unsustainable number, as sharks are predators--they reproduce more slowly and at smaller numbers.

Please check out HelpSaveSharks.org for some ways to help save these incredibly important animals & please choose to reduce your seafood consumption/source it sustainably on behalf of sharks and other sea life (Try out Monterey Bay Aquarium’s “Seafood Watch” app ;)).
