A man was shot on the sidewalk, and a woman was struck and critically injured by a stray bullet, in a shooting in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood Tuesday.

Shortly before 1 p.m., a white car rolled up the 7300 block of South Wolcott Avenue with two people inside and one of them started shooting.

Neighbors who shielded themselves from some of the bullets said it appeared that the shooter was going up and down the block, shooting what appeared to be at random at a neighbor’s house.

As CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reported, surveillance video picked up some of the shots. In the video, a man is seen diving and ducking out of the way in the video – he was able to hide behind some parked cars and was not shot, but two others were.

A 21-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk and was shot in the right side of his abdomen and the lower center of his back, police said. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was stabilized.

Neighbors said the man lives on the block.

But investigators quickly realized one of the bullets went through a window of a home.

A 35-year-old woman, who was in her house at 7305 S. Wolcott Ave. at the time of the shooting, was struck when the stray bullet from the same weapon went right through her front window. She was also taken to Advocate Christ in critical condition.

Neighbors said the woman was holding her child at the time.

“The vehicle that did the shooting rolled down the block, and was shooting at anybody on our side at random,” said neighbor John Edwards, who witnessed the shooting. “I mean, hanging out the window, just shooting.”

The gunmen fled the scene.
