At this point, the focus shifts to the murders of the girls, with the author challenging CW as to why he killed the girls and what was he protecting? again and again a spew of the rhetorical questions she asked CW's was did he kill the girls to keep them quiet from reporting that SR had been abusing them. She implores CW "were you protecting Shannan, Christopher?!"

I immediately took this as intimating sexual abuse. secret abuse hypothetical, I think the target is only SR why not CW.
