This presentation includes a review of the diagnostic criteria of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and discusses why challenging behavior (such as aggression, self-injury, and property destruction) frequently occurs with individuals who have this diagnosis. Discussion also includes a functional approach to challenging behavior and examples of function-based interventions.
