The Process of Brush Printing in Kachchh, Gujarat, North India

The Process of Brush Printing in Kachchh, Gujarat, North India One of Khatri Abduljabbar's sons showcasing the process of brush printing.

In this technique, areas that are to be protected from the dye are covered with a mixture of clay and resin which is applied using a long brush. This resist treatment is printed on the white fabric to protect it from the subsequent dyeing. The printed fabric is then dipped in the vat containing the natural colour to dye the unresisted areas. Finally, similar to Block Printing, thorough washing removes the excess dye and the resist from the fabric surface, which is then laid on the ground to dry in the sun.
