Reporters Without Borders: 49 journalists murdered in 2019

Reporters Without Borders: 49 journalists murdered in 2019 Forty-nine journalists were killed across the world in 2019, Reporters Without Borders said Tuesday, adding that it was the lowest death toll in 16 years. The journalists mostly died covering conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan. The Paris-based watchdog however warned that 'journalism still remains a dangerous profession' and that more and more journalists are being killed for their work in democratic countries. While fewer journalists are dying, more are ending up behind bars, according to Reporters Without Borders, 389 were locked up in 2019, up 12% from last year, with nearly half of them imprisoned in three countries -- China, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
