Kangaroo sanctuary destroyed by bushfires as locals count cost to native wildlife | ABC News A kangaroo sanctuary near Bateman's Bay on the south coast of New South Wales has been destroyed in the bushfires. Around 60 kangaroos from the sanctuary perished, and another 20 managed to escape. As some of those slowly return, the sanctuary's owner is finding they haven't escaped unscathed.
