reCARDing the CATALOGUE - Fresno State Laureate Lab

reCARDing the CATALOGUE - Fresno State Laureate Lab 6 February 2019 - Interview with Anthony Cody, Mariah Bosch, and Javier Lopez, graduate fellows in Juan Felipe Herrera's Laureate Lab Visual Wordist Studio, inside the Henry Madden Library at Fresno State.

Anthony, Mariah, and Javier talk about the Laureate Lab's multimedia installation, "reCARDing the CATALOGUE," a self-described "VoiceSchematicPoemSculpture" that was exhibited inside the Madden Library's Ellipse Gallery as part of the 10th anniversary of the library's north wing expansion. This "Card/y/ology" exhibit is one of many examples of the Laureate Lab's innovative, collaborative projects.

About the installation:

VoiceSculpture: “The Edge of the Storm” –
A collaboration between Fresno State Students and Laureate Lab Fellows where students read and recorded words and phrases from the Henry Madden Library Card Catalogue Cards. The Laureate Lab Fellows sampled, layered, distorted and loop the recordings into a collaborative VoiceSculpture poem on loop.

Anabolik TraVERSE Maps & Waves –
An assemblage of Henry Madden Library Card Catalogue Cards mapped and sculpted to create sparse visual poems with pathways of connecting words, phrases, and symbols that traverse the landscape of the catalogue cards waves.

Cositas: APequeñaPulgaParty –
A market of miniatures assembled by the Laureate Lab fellows bending, folding, shaping, and assembling small wares (i.e. books, floral arrangements, letters, clothes, and even orange juicers) from the Henry Madden Library Card Catalogue Cards.

Exhibit created by: Juan Felipe Herrera, Mariah Bosch, Javier Lopez, Sammy Moore,
Raphique Barakat, Paul Sanchez, Chevas Clements,
Chanelle Ojieh, Emanuel Mayoral, and Anthony Cody.
