Pep Guardiola praised his Manchester City defence after the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. Two goals from Raheem Sterling and one late on from Gabriel Jesus helped the Blues to return to the top of the Premier League table for at least a few hours, but it was another strong performance at the back that caught the eye of the manager. Vincent Kompany, making his first start in over a month, looked like he had never been away and Aymeric Laporte's skill on the ball helped make up for the loss of the injured Fernandinho . Bringing the skipper back for the Selhurst Park test was a deliberate plan from Guardiola , but the coach was also pleased with the work that his full-backs did. "This kind of stadium, long balls are always there," he said. "Benteke is so strong in the air and Vinny is the best header of a ball that we have. Of course he has experience and the last few weeks he has trained good without any problems. "He played at a high level. He was controlling, and Laporte played incredible today, breaking the lines with his passes every time and switching play, passing the ball to Sergio [Aguero], David [Silva] and the other ones. We made a good process ,we controlled the counter with [Benjamin] Mendy and Kyle [Walker] and that is why I am very pleased with the performance." Guardiola also confirmed Aguero did not suffer an injury when he was withdrawn from the game in the second half.
