Saleemah's master classes emphasize the cultural history of jazz dance as well as immerse the dancers in a comprehensive warm-up, progressions across the floor and choreography. The class begins with Saleemah’s original warm up/ jazz barre, which asks the dancers to start “dancing” within the warmup, while focusing on rhythm, the social dancing body/ groove, architecture of the body and dynamic movement shifts. The warm up also encompasses juxtapositional techniques inspired by the Matt Mattox tradition, with choreographic adjustments relevant to Saleemah’s teaching technique. The class then immerses the dancers in a comprehensive across the floor with direction change and footwork, followed by Saleemah’s original contemporary jazz repertoire, aimed at exposing dancers to the possibilities of jazz dance in the contemporary era. Saleemah E. Knight is a concert and commercial dance choreographer, university professor and performer. As a performer Saleemah has danced with/worked with The Lion King Broadway Musical, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Jillian Michaels, Tyrese, Country Music Television, MTV Asia and many more!
