At Timber Lane ES, Principal Ben Chiet and Assistant Principal Lisa O'Donovan took Dr. Brabrand to visit the classroom of Ms. Chloe Yazdani and to observe a Welcoming and Culturally Responsive Environment. Ms. Yazdani has a wide variety of academic levels in her classroom, from kids who are new to this country, to students who are Level IV Advanced Academic Programs (AAP). One of her techniques to advance literacy and to create a caring culture is to use books without words. Students are able to choose and use their own vocabulary to describe what is happening in the pictures. The books also give students a chance to explore cultures that are different from their own.
