Long before Nigeria gained independence as a nation in 1960, several regions existed independently as protectorates under British rule. Part of the colonial masters' dominion was the imposition of forced labour and direct taxes, which the Egba people vehemently kicked against in 1918. That rebellion would lead to one of the most significant wars in Nigeria's history - the Adubi War (Ogun Àdùbí).
