One hundred drawings at MATTHEW MARKS GALLERY James Kalm says if you like DRAWINGS, DRAWINGS, DRAWINGS…and you have half-hour to kill, draw neigh to this overwhelming exhibition at MATTHEW MARKS on 24th Street. “One Hundred Drawings” gives viewers a luscious sampler of the best on paper displays of the draftspersonly skills, odds and ends, major pieces, and historic sketches that will titillate the eye and mind. This show has a mingling of generations from the Impressionists (Degas) to the Cubists (Picasso), Outsiders (Susan Te Kahurangi King), insiders (Elaine and Willem deKooning) with today’s practitioners like Laura Owens, Terry Winters and Wade Guyton. The list of included artists would be too long to include here but some notables are: Aubrey Beardsley, Joan Brown, Paul Cadmus, Joseph Cornell, Barkley Hendricks, Hannah Höch, Ray Johnson, Donald Judd, Norman Lewis, Sarah Lucas, Henri Michaux, Bruce Nauman, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Martin Puryear, Niki de Saint Phalle and Florine Stettheimer.
